Manchester is a major city in the northwest of England with a rich industrial heritage.
Manchester was right at the heart of the Revolution, becoming the UK's leading producer of cotton and textiles. Manchester is also famous for being the first industrialised city in the world. Manchester was responsible for the country's first ever working canal in 1761 and the world's first ever railway line in 1830.
Manchester is the only UK city to feature in Lonely Planet's Best in Travel 2023 list and the only UK city in National Geographic's influential 'Best of the World' list which annually sets out 25 of the must-see places to visit around the globe.
